How do you trust a company to exist in 50 years? You don't trust promises alone β you trust the architecture behind them. Here's the institutional-grade permanence we're building into our DNA, and the standard we hold ourselves to.
A Funded Future
Lifetime + 100 Years
Redundant Storage
Multi-Layer Trust
How do you fund preservation for 100 years? Our plan is not to rely on massive upfront reserves, but on a funding model where the math works in your favor over time.
Cloud storage costs have declined dramatically over the past 15 years and continue falling, while a conservatively invested fund can compound over decades. The gap between these two forces is what we're designing the model around. The figures below are illustrative projections of how that model could work β the fund is not yet operational, and the numbers are not a guarantee of returns or outcomes.
Target Fund Returns: ~7% Annually (illustrative)
Modeled on a conservative 60/40 portfolio (global equities + bonds) β lower than the S&P 500's historical average, and chosen for long-term sustainability. A modeling assumption, not a promised return.
Storage Costs: Declining 10% Annually
AWS Glacier Deep Archive: $0.00099/GB/month. Your 250GB documentary costs $3/year today, projected under $0.10/year by 2075.
The Compounding Gap (modeled)
In our projections, fund returns grow to many times the annual storage cost over decades. The aim of this surplus is to fund preservation for the long term β an illustration of the model, not a guaranteed outcome.
| Year | Fund | Storage/yr | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | $90 | $12 | Building |
| Year 10 | $177 | $4.68 | Surplus begins |
| Year 25 | $395 | $1.42 | 27x coverage |
| Year 50 | $2,490 | $0.42 | 414x coverage |
| Year 100 | $82,531 | $0.05 | Permanent surplus |
Illustrative only. Modeling assumptions: ~7% returns, storage decline ~10% slowing to ~3%. Not a forecast or guarantee; the fund is not yet operational.

DIY subscriptions include preservation in pricing. No separate allocation needed.
Forever.com allocates 52% of revenue to preservation because they serve unlimited photo storage with unpredictable growth. A user might upload 10GB or 10TB over their lifetimeβthey can't know.
Our planned model is fundamentally different: professional documentaries have bounded, known storage at delivery. A 250GB Studio documentary stays 250GB. That certainty is what would let us allocate precisely what's needed (a few percent depending on tier) rather than over-reserving, with the funding model designed to handle the rest through compound growth over time.
Your stories are kept on redundant, encrypted cloud storage with off-site backups, written to immutable keys so they can't be silently overwritten. We're actively expanding toward multi-region redundancy so that a failure in any single location won't put your data at risk.

What we are building toward
Your data sits on enterprise-grade cloud storage β and we're adding redundant copies so that real safety comes from multiple independent copies, not any single provider's hardware.
AES-256 encryption at rest. TLS 1.3 in transit. Your family archive is encrypted from the moment it reaches us.
We run automated checks on backup freshness so we know your data is captured and recoverable β not just assumed safe.
As technology evolves, our goal is to migrate your files to current formats so your 2024 video still plays decades from now.

+ 100 Years
Designated heirs receive full access. Your great-great-grandchildren will watch.
Beyond
Option for heirs to extend, supported by the preservation fund we're building.
We don't promise a vague "forever" β that's a marketing word that means nothing. Instead, we make a specific commitment we hold ourselves to: to preserve your stories for your lifetime, plus an additional 100 years after.
100 years covers approximately 4-5 generations. Your grandchildren will show their grandchildren. That's the realistic span where personal memories remain personally meaningful.
You designate up to 5 heirs in your account settings. Upon your passing, they receive full access to continue the legacy β watching, sharing, and even adding new stories.
No action required from heirs. Access continues automatically. They'll receive instructions on how to access the vault when the time comes.
We believe preservation shouldn't mean captivity. You're never locked in. Your stories are yours to keep, move, or delete as you see fit. Permanence never overrides your right to delete β you can erase your data at any time.
Export your complete archive at any time β all original files, all formats, all metadata. No fees, no restrictions, no waiting periods.
We are custodians, not owners. Your stories, your photos, your documentaries belong to you and your designated heirs. Period.
Request complete deletion at any time. We delete your data within 30 days of a verified request. This is irreversible, so we confirm twice.
All exports use standard, open formats (MP4, JPG, PDF). No proprietary codecs, no platform lock-in. Play on any device, forever.
We're designing a wind-down plan around a "digital inheritance" commitment: if we ever cease operations, our intent is to notify all customers and provide a window of continued access for downloads, then to migrate remaining archives to a trusted non-profit digital preservation organization. Because your exports use open formats, you always hold your own copies too.
Trust is built through visibility. We publish what others hide.
Once the preservation fund is established, we plan to publish its balance, investment returns, and storage costs each quarter so you can verify the math.
PlannedInternational standard for trustworthy digital repositories. Independent verification of our preservation practices and fund integrity.

Deep dive into our permanence commitments
It's how we plan to make long-term preservation economically sustainable. The idea: cloud storage costs keep declining over time, while a conservatively invested preservation fund can compound over decades. The widening gap is designed to fund preservation for the long term. These are illustrative projections β the fund is not yet operational, and the figures are not a guarantee of returns or outcomes.
